British Open has a strong reputation to live up to. The 35 edition is now over, and a quick summary is in order. The tournament gathered fighters from around the world, and there were several strong names in this year's line up. This year had less participants in relation to last year. Several organizations have World Tournament soon, and some have expressed that the level of last year are actually too high. As always, the event runs smoothly, and something else would have been strange with almost 40 years of experience.

This year's lightweight class was quickly appointed to be the strongest, and it was something that turned out to be right out of the day. There were many matches that everyone held the highest standards. Very hard and technical battles with England, the Netherlands, Spain and Russia as leading countries. Redondo from Spain took the title of the day's best final battle. Russia ended up in 2nd place, while Darren Stringer and Wesley Jansen shared 3 place.

Middleweight final was decided early. Mezhestov from Russia was clearly the best, and Wai Cheung received rough treatment on the the mat. Today's judges made this even harder for the home fighter, as they judged the extension twice without it was justified. Mezhestov was clearly the stronger man and was never threatened by the home fighter.

Heavyweight final was a walkover, which was expected since the two Russian opponents to meet. This was shades of last year, when the Russian fighters refused to fight each other. The class was characterized by a level difference and several ugly incidents of unclean fighting. However the top fighters from Russia in this division are among the best in the world, and many ask them selves : will they fight next time in the British Open, or will the find a harder stage to fight at.
