Stora Höga Open 2020, Sweden

25th January, the annual Stora Höga Open was held. This is – unlike most of the rapports we read, a tournament adjusted and organized for the width and not the elite. A great “first time” tournament, building the new generation of full contact fighters – but also for fighters with some more experience. The tournament system are very good, since it gives junior fighters more than one fight, even if they should loose in the first fight. 209 fighters from three nations, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

10 years ago: Look back at “Hungarian Open 2009”

Many said that the Hungarian Open was a tournament at such a high level, that it even could be compared to the European Championships. The tournament does not exist today in the same way, but it was arranged several times.In 2009 Hungarian Open was streamed LIVE, and with 149 competitors from 11 countries, (European countries, Russia and Kazakhstan) Four categories men and three women + Kata as well. and World Cup fighters, EC champions and more at the line up – this turn out to be a tournament way beyond the normal. Fullpakket helg i Horten!

Lørdag og søndag 7-8 September ble det avholdt junioramling i regi av Horten karateklubb. Som vanlig var opplegget strøkent, og de 30 tall utøvere som var klar for helgen fyllte sine roller med knallbra innsats og tydelig utvikling i løpet av helgen. Ansvarlige instruktører passet også på å videreformidle inputs fra bl.a Kick-off i Sverige, og dermed fikk man en oppgradering på en kan forvente seg når man skal konkurrere.

Kick off Region Sør – Egersund.

Lørdag 24. August arrangerte Egersund Karate kyokushinkai et åpent (for alle) fight seminar i Espelandhallen. Tema var som nevnt fight, og dette ble fordelt på tre økter utover dagen. Etter endt dag var det et 40 talls utøvere som hadde sett sitt snitt til å få med seg denne eventen, som ble en fin start på sessongen for mange!

WFKO – Road to Japan 2020

As we all know the World Fullcontact Karate Organization will host the first World Championship in Japan next year. The WFKO has systematic grown in the wake of JFKO, which has long been well established. This spring we watched the 5th JFKO All Japan Open tournament – and could confirm top level, top support. The 1st European Fullcontact Karate Championship will as we know be a selection tournament to Japan 2020. But before this, there are also a similar tournament to be held in France 19-21 September. At last we are going into a new phase – and there is a lot of questions regarding to this settings..

This is Karate

“This is Karate” two “old” videos that show Karate. One likes the wrapping and the atmosphere that these two videos have – and not least the content. Knock out collections are often seen on youtube, and there are knock outs here too. But one feels that there are also many clips that contain the essence that one seeks in the execution of a technique. Accuracy, timing, speed, power. And perhaps what should impress most: the effectiveness of a properly executed technique that is not performed spectacularly with jumps, scrolls and acrobatic touches.
