Being on of the strongest nations inn Europe, with fighters in World class it naturally attracts interest. This year the Lithuanian championship expand the amount of weight categories, and divide the categories in to 5 kg classes. This results 9 eight categories for men and 6 for women. A another factor is that victory will not be given in weight differences, only decisions on the mat.

rita-pivoriunaite-61505560This years Lithuanian Championship will give us the names of the fighter that ill fight in the European Championship in Denmark in April, and with the World Championship in weight categories waiting further down the road the effort will be strong.

Weight categories of the Lithuanian Championship:

Women: – 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and over 70 kg.

eventasUsing the “Olympic weight system” are not new in Kyokushin, but it require that the tournaments have a large number of fighters. KWU is one of the organizations that have been working with the same system. In that case many pointed out that the number of weight categories as to many regarding to the number of fighters. As a result of this some of the classes was down to under ten fighters, and all the way down to 6 and 7 fighter in the category. We do not have a rule that say a minimum of fighters must attend in each category, but as long as the cup system being used, it is naturally to have at least the number of fighters so every medal must be fought for.

One of the reasons for the use of these klibavicus-kopiweight categories,(if not mistaken) is that the Lithuanian team are aiming for the 3rd KWU World Championship in Japan later this year – November 25–26th. The championship being held in Tokyo is a work to expand KWU`s organization in Japan. The Lithuanian team made a strong impact in their last KWU tournament, taking medals in ten out of fourteen classes – even do several of the top champions from Lithuania did not attend!
