Counting down – Swedish Open 2016

2016sweopen80In one week, we will know the results of this year Swedish Open. Many good fighters will battle for the top spot, and we would like to take a closer look on some of them. We starts at the top – heavyweight men…

there have been a little chance in Swedish Open, regarding to who we find in the line up this year. The overall view is reminding us of an “Scandinavian Open” Tournament, with essentially fighters from Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Fortunately there are also other countries with strong fighters from Lithuania and Poland, which certainly will affect the tournament.

Difference from previous tournaments is that there are less athletes from countries outside Scandinavia. This despite the fact that the Swedish Karate Kyokushin is very strong to provide support other tournaments around Europe. But another factor to this is that it has come to a wider diversity in relation to different organizations than ever before.

Some of the fighter from Heavyweight men +80kg presented in random order.

Marek Wolny, Poland.

wolnyFrom 2014, only one fighter are to find in the line up this year, 2014 runner up Marek Wolny, Poland. Wolny do have a solid record, and recently showed good results. Only a few weeks since he took the top spot in The Szolnok European Cup in Hungary – and that in a very convincing way. 3rd place in the KWU EC earlier this year-adding that to his previous WKO EC places 3rd in 2012,13 and 15. On the podium in Diamond Cup and French Open this year also. (full record) videos

Faddy Allan, Denmark.

This young fighter do have a certain sharp technique, especially his kicking ability. And with an length of 200 cm this have been a great challenge for those who face him. Last year he won the Danish Open, reached third place in the EC U22. Being a member of the Danish national team categorizes him at a certain high level. Have meet soem of the best fighters in Europe, and will for sure bring a factor in to the tournament.

Fredrik Johansson, Sweden.

Homefighter from Sweden, long time as a competent fighter with many years of experience. Represented national team of Sweden on several occasions, World Championship in 2007 and 2011. And now lately in the European Championship 2016. Do also have notable wins in different Open tournaments, and placed himself 2nd at SENI West Europe Cup 2016 this summer in England. Tough fighting style, and seems to get stronger when the fights are getting longer.

Julian Bjerrekær, Denmarkjulian

This fighter are doing his debut in the heavyweight category. Excellent technician in every way, have a good way of moving smart in the fights. Possesses technique and power to determine battles before full time. last time he ended third in the middleweight division, after loosing a very hard and technical battle with Swedish fighter Bergström. Bjerrekær do have good experience – and a little mixed as well, since his background are coming from Ashihara Karate.
