Batumi Open-2024 – shaping up!

Still two weeks left of the registration (8/15/2024), and we see a interesting tournament raising. Strong nations (10) as Ukraine, Lithuania, Kazakhstan and more are ready to challenge the strong full-contact host Georgia.

The International Full Contact Karate Tournament – “Batumi Open-2024” is a tournament with many divisions. From U-14 and up to the categories where the adults fight. We will take a closer look at the line up – even so early in the process. The tournament have a good tradition and reputation for i hard level.

Georgia have a very strong team to offer the visitors, and of course that it self would be a great reason for going to the tournament. Two divisions for women and four for men. +/- 60 kg – women’s division.

As we speak, the women lightweight division have fighters from Ukraine, Lithuania, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Georgia. Strong nations indeed, and in the line up we got fighters with a decent record also. Anna Izdebska / Ukraine, Justyna Vabalis / Lithuania, Susanna Klekchyan / Armenia, Nurgul Saparova / Kazakhstan,  all with EC and/or World Championships medals (from different org) adult/youth.

On general basis we do have a line up that will give us several fights with participants that not usually fight in the same category, region or organization.

In the over 60 kg women’s division, we also got some really notable names. We can start to mention  Maria Sekunda and Julija Balčiūtė from Lithuania and follow up with Alina Ossipenko, Valeriya Krestina, Ulzhan Rakisheva from Kazakhstan. Also Ukraine / Kateryna Tataurova and Greece / Pousanidou Maria have interesting fighters in this category.

In the men’s division, we have similar setting as the women’s division, also here we can see fighters with notable records from different org. regions and tournaments.

Georgia have participants in all categories, and this is fighters at the highest level. Examples of that would be  Mindia Mgeladze, Lasha Shantadze in the -60 kg. Data Putkaradze, temuri kobakhidze -70 kg. Lasha Babuadze and Giorgi Khugaevi in the -80 kg, and in the +80 kg reign European Champion WKO David Mskhaladze and Levan Verulidze – a veteran represented Georgia many times in the EC and more.

Probably, Kazakhstan would be the largest factor in this tournament. A mix of many participants and high level athletes from different organizations will for sure count in. Like Georgia Kazakhstan got many highly recognized fighters.

Personally we look forward to see the fight in the heaviest category (recon it will get more fighters) with  Rustam Avzalov / Kazakhstan vs David Mskhaladze and/or Levan Verulidze for an example. But Kazakhstan will also be a challenge in the lighter categories, Yevgeniy Vassetskiy -60 kg, Yelaman Mukashev and Ilgiz Kanybekov -70 kg category.

In this moment, we have ten nation registered and it is to expect that more will follow, and the nations all ready registered will add even more fighters to the tournament. Greece, Latvia, Iraq, Armenia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Austria, Israel, Kazakhstan and Georgia.
