2025 European Karate Championship J16 and U21

The weekend April 25th – 26th 2025 Klaipėda, Lithuania, The European Championship for J16 and U21 was held. European champions were named, and these are actually some of these we will see in the future when we talk about the senior EC

The European Championship for U-categories is a impressive tournament. The reason for that is because it is an arena where we can see the results of the great work done in the up and coming generation.

The leading nations have an impressive number of athletes. The host, Lithuania with 82 participants is very impressive – as always. Ukraine with 60 athletes – also very impressive. Poland with 49 athletes – This is also the order in which the countries ranked when it came to the total medal statistics.

Hungary 41,  Bulgaria 30, Romania 40 athletes makes a big contribution too – with the high level that we know of, and with relatively large teams participating in the championship.

In the big picture we must notice Georgia 20 and Sweden 13 athletes, and they manage to reach high in the medal statistic. Georgia in 4th and Sweden 6th – with Romania between them.

The championship is well organized, and the execution is going well. As expected, you can say, when Lithuania is the organizer. The European Championship for  J-16 and U-21 works like the senior EC. With 398 participants from 18 nations, we see once again a solid tournament, but we can also see tat this time (compare with last time) we do miss some nations. ⇓ Photo by Edvinas Ivanovas visit for more edvinfoto.lt

We can come up with some reasons for why – but it might be a coincidence as well. Turkey, Switzerland, Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Denmark, Czech Republic did not attend this time with participants as they did last year. Some changes will always be there – but we feel that it was quite many nations out this time. One factor can be the cost. Everything is raising when it comes to the cost of daily base use. The championship extends over 3-4 days, travel, accommodation, food, participation fee, coach fee, Sayonara party, lost earnings. There are many factors. The fact that the usual schedule has been changed due to the World Championships in Japan now in May can play a role, considering that it has only been six months since the last European Championships for these classes.   Photo by Edvinas Ivanovas visit for more edvinfoto.lt

But regardless, there is much to be happy about the sporting achievements. Despite being young athletes, they show an experience and maturity that is of great importance. Young Athletes are extremely well prepared and up-to-date.

It is usually difficult to single out a single athlete when there are many talented ones – but we cannot ignore Nikas Kvasys / Lithuania and his incredible achievement!
