Ranking System
This is a subjective attempt to
rank fighters by year and weight taking into account the tournaments
participated in for that year and respective success. Certain tournaments carry
more weight than others, but this format also takes into account the number of
tournaments fought in successfully, the prestige and quality of competitors of
each particular event. These rankings are based on the results that are included
on this site and may change on receipt of additional information.
Note:
- For certain events a coefficient is added depending on the size, quality of
field and prestige of the tournament.
- For some years bonus points are added to certain fighters for outstanding
achievements.
- If a fighter does not fight in that year, they will not be included as there
are no carryover points from previous years.
- Points cannot be carried up a weight but can be carried down. For example if a
fighter gains points in a middleweight event and a heavyweight event in the same
year then he will be classified in the middleweight section for that year as the
points earned in the middleweight category cannot be carried up a weight.
Exceptions to this are when the fighter gains points in a major event in the
higher weight and then a coefficient ( <1) is used to add the points for the
lower weight and they will be classed in the higher weight category. However if
a fighter fights in for example three mw tournaments and one lw, they will be
classed as a lw but the points earned will be multiplied by a coefficient < 1.
- A fighter will not be legible if they do not fight in a Kyokushin tournament
in that year, however they can receive bonus points if they fight in a Kyokushin
tournament and additional events, e.g 1997 - Francisco Filho - K-1 World Grand
Prix 3rd Place, 1993 - David Pickthall - All Japan Shidokan Champion
- Following the death of Sosai Mas Oyama in 1994 and the fractioning of
Kyokushin and thus a greater number of tournaments, the number of fighters
listed each year is increased from 10 to 20 from 1994 onwards.
