The best Norwegian karateka visited Nessebar, the oldest city in Europe and karate club "Bushido"

From 6th to 10th of July nearly 300 karatekas from all over the country took part in the traditional summer camp of the Federation Bulgarian Karate Shinkyokushinkai, which once again took place in Primorsko (near Bourgas). This year the camp joined guests from Norway, Germany and England. With one of them met a team of "Your Voice". This is the best Norwegian player at the moment - Evan Mannsaker who after the camp in Primorsko was a special guest of the karate club "Bushido" - Nessebar. 24 years old karate athlete is a multiple champion from various tournaments, and last month became first at International Karate Tournament Shinkyokushinkai "SWISS OPEN" in Stanz, Switzerland. He will be the representative of his country at the forthcoming 10th World Championship, which will be held in the Japanese capital Tokyo in October this year. Evan Mannsaker participated in two hours workout with karatekas from "Bushido" and met in personal combat the President of the club Sensei and coach Hristo Terziev and Senpai Lachezar Dimitrov. Evan, what impressed you most at today's karate workout in “Bushido dojo”?

Even: I liked that the workout was intensive. Besides, people I trained with have a lot of experience behind them. I liked the different techniques and variations which Sensei Hristo Terziev showed. The dojo of Sensei Terziev is well known and I liked it a lot. Now I had the opportunity to experience it myself. I see that the new senpai Lachezar Dimitrov is a player like him and follows his steps. He also showed many new techniques that are useful for me to get experience not only during training but also for future competitions. Meetings with both of them were very interesting and useful for me because they do not fight with routine but always show something surprising, something new. They always show something unexpected and keep in this way the opponent in suspense.

Do you think that Sensei Terziev is a worthy opponent in a battle? Even: Sensei Terziev is a very good partner. I think he keeps many secrets and I have many things to learn from him. It was very interesting to fight with him because he shows a very good technique and I got many surprising hits.

Would you come for a camp or competition in Nessebar, if there are conditions for that?

Even: I am for a first time in Bulgaria in relation to the training camp in Primorsko. I decided to visit Nessebar. I loved it here and if I have the opportunity would come back again. I would attend a competition here with pleasure if there are conditions like sports facilities.

You will take part in the 10th World Championships in Tokyo in October. How do you prepare yourself for the participation there?

Even: I train very hard, but the real training will start when I return from Bulgaria. I have a special program which will be executed before the championship. It includes tours of various locations throughout Norway where I will pursue sparring with different players. I think as part of the preparation to include one more visit to Bulgaria before the championship.

You’re for a first time in Nessebar – Oldest city in Europe. Did you have a walk around already and what did you like most here?

Even: Yes, I walked in Nessebar and it became my favorite city in Bulgaria already, I visited also the old part of the town. I liked being in one of the oldest cities in Europe which has many cultural traditions. By ancient churches and historical monuments I became aware of what it was many years ago. I liked very much walking through the cobblestone pavement of the streets.

Did you buy some souvenirs from the city?

Even: Yes, I bought small gifts for my family - for my mother and my father. I bought also postcards. It also made me a great impression that people here are able to produce many beautiful things with their hands, to make them themselves.

Apart from your performances in karate, you act quite successfully as a model. Where do you find it more difficult - on the tatami or in front of cameras?

Even: For sure it is more difficult in front of cameras because I'm a shy person. Sometimes I am most worried before shooting than before a karate competition.

And with so many commitments do you have any time for women?

Even: (Laughs) Of course. Here in Bulgaria I saw that there are many beautiful women, so I found free time for them.
